At 17, violinist HILARY HAHN has already achieved recognition as a major musical talent, having been admitted at age 10 at the Curtis Institute of Music. She received a coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant in 1995. Miss Hahn made her debut with the Baltimore Symphony at age 11. She has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Budapest Festival Orchestra.
Last season's highlights included her subscription debut with David Zinman and the Baltimore Symphony; a three-concert series with the Pittsburgh Symphony; performances of the Bach Double Concerto with Jaime Laredo and the New York Chamber Symphony; and her first orchestral tour, with the
Pittsburgh Symphony under Maestro Maazel. As a recitalist, Miss Hahn has performed in Ravinia's Rising Stars Series and in The Phillips Collection Concert Series in Washington. She has also appeared in recital in Baltimore, Cleveland and Philadelphia, and at the Festival de Sully et d'Orleans, France. She has performed in inner-city Philadelphia schools on a grant from the municipal government, and each summer since 1992 has appeared at the Skaneateles (NY) Chamber Festival under David Zinman. An avid chamber-music player, Miss Hahn has participated in the Marlboro Music Festival. She became a CMS Two Artist at the start of the 1996-97 season. In addition to guest appearances on WQXR-FM in New York and WFLN-FM in Philadelphia, she has appeared on The McLaughlin Show, Performance Today and The Gifted Ones. Miss Hahn plays a J.B. Vuillaume "del Gesú" violin made in 1864.
